The Liberty Broadcasting System was a U.S. radio network of the late 1940s and early 1950s founded by Gordon McLendon, which mainly broadcast live recreations of Major League Baseball games by following the action via Western Union ticker reports. Liberty Broadcasting System went live on April 17, 1947, from the El Patio Ballroom in Dallas.
Liberty Broadcasting System had several pioneering features not found with other radio networks at that time, such as Liberty Broadcasting System is one of the first to broadcast 24 hours a day, and it was also among the first commercial stations in Texas to adopt rock and roll music programming, which happened around 1954.
Liberty Broadcasting System later expanded into television broadcasting after McLendon became president of TelePrompTer Corporation on February 28, 1953, when he apparently left Liberty Broadcasting System or sold his interest soon after that.
The company merged with CBS Television Network Inc., becoming its West Coast division in 1955; however, Liberty Broadcastings continued to produce some local programs until four.
