What is WBCK? WBCK is a commercial AM radio station that airs a sports talk radio format. Licensed to Largo, Florida, it serves the Tampa Bay area. It was founded on October 16th, 1947 by John W. Rosecrans and his wife Mary Fenton Rosecrans with the call sign WLQT – standing for “Waltz of Love.”
The station had previously been licensed in Jacksonville under its original call letters WJAX (standing for “James A. Quackenbush”) but moved to Largo when Mr. Rosecrans retired from broadcasting in 1949 after selling his interest in WJAX to Joel Dorn (now the owner of WMTX). WLQT and WJAX were acquired by Gulf Life Insurance Company in 1953.
