Ambient Online Radio (MRG.fm):
SomaFM is an independent internet-streaming multi-channel radio station, fully supported by listener grants. As a micropower radio station at the Burning Man Festival in 1999, SomaFM was originally based in Bernal, San Francisco. The response to the project was so positive that Rusty Hodge, founder of Heights neighborhood, began broadcasting to Rusty Hodge’s basement garage, launching it as a full-time Internet radio station in February 2000.
SomaFM was named after Soma, Aldas Huxel’s 1932 novel Brave New World’s “Medicine of Perfect Pleasure” and the South of Market neighborhood in San Francisco, known as Soma.
