1340 KVOT
1340 KVOT:
1340 KVOT is a broadcast radio station from Taos, NM, United States, providing Progressive talk, news, information, and live shows. Established in 1947 as the first commercial FM radio station to serve Northern New Mexico, 1340 KVOT has served listeners since 1948 with its unique blend of music and community involvement. It’s not just a local voice on the airwaves; it’s an integral part of our community!
The station, originally on 1340 AM and later also broadcasting to FM listeners in the Albuquerque area with a simulcast on KACQ-FM 99.0, was put up for sale by its owner Clear Channel Communications (now iHeartMedia), effective November 16, 2008.
The move came as part of a divestiture of several stations then owned by Clear Channel/iHeart to satisfy an FCC mandate that it sell off some radio properties due to ownership limits. In December 2009, new owners announced: New Mexico native Mark Switzer and his partners at Mesa Media Group LLC., who purchased the two Taos stations from Clear Market Broadcasting Inc. for $550,000 cash plus the assumption of the stations’ debts.
The station was assigned the KVOT call letters on January 22, 2010, due to Clear Channel’s divestiture and sale to Mesa Media Group LLC. The new owners said they intended to improve KVOT by bringing in programming from other sources such as Pacifica Radio Network for its progressive talk shows and Democracy Now!
for its news programming. On October 31, 2011, after months without any notice or contact with listeners concerning changes at 1340 AM or 99.0 FM (now KTZO), it is confirmed that New Mexico radio station “K-VOX” will be shuttering operations effective today at 11:59 PM MST.
